Our History

Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc. Has proudly served Fulton County, Pennsylvania, since 1875, making it the county's oldest funeral home and has a trusted name in compassionate care. For a century and a half, families have turned to us during life's most difficult moments, knowing they will be met with dignity, respect and personal attention.

Rooted deeply in the traditions of our community, we are a family-owned funeral home, committed to honoring every life with meaningful services that reflect each person's story. After more than 20 years of service as part owner, Darrin Smith is honored to serve as sole owner, proudly continuing the same legacy of values, compassion, and professionalism that has defined the funeral home for generations.

A Message from the Owner, Darrin Smith

As the Supervisor and owner of Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., I consider it a true honor to serve the families of Fulton County and the surrounding communities. For me, this work is more than a profession— it’s a dedication to service, guided by compassion and a deep respect for tradition.

After graduating from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS) in 1998, I became a licensed funeral director in 1999 and began my career working for the Geisel Family in Bedford, Pennsylvania. In 2001, I returned home to Fulton County to join Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc. in Harrisonville, Pennsylvania. The following year, in 2002, the McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania location was established, which continues today as our sole place of service for families throughout the area.

To this present day, I am proud to serve as the sole owner and supervisor of the funeral home, continuing the legacy of service and care that began here in 1875. Together with my wife, Hallie Smith, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our community with the same compassion, integrity, and personal care that have guided our lives and work. My goal remains the same—to provide every family with the guidance, comfort, and respect I would want for my own loved ones, and to ensure that each life is honored with the dignity and compassion it deserves.
