Victor Gobin Obituary


     Victor "Vic" Kenneth Gobin, 95, McConnellsburg, passed away peacefully Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Fulton County Medical Center with his wife and daughters at his side.
     He was born October 22, 1925 in Wells Tannery, PA, the son of  Charles A. Gobin and Margaret Romig Gobin. He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles H. Gobin Jr and Fred E. Gobin.
     He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn (Cutchall) Gobin, whom he married September 13, 1947, a daughter, Vickie (Gobin) Gordon and husband Greg of McConnellsburg, and daughter Valerie Gobin Park and husband John of State College. He also had 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren: Lisa (Gordon) Hosmann (Patrick) of Cornelius, NC, and their children Elizabeth and Arabella, Holly Gordon Stambaugh of McConnellsburg and daughter Bristol, Amie Park Wilson (Brian) and son FIetcher, of Falls Church, Va, Sarah Park Shirck (Adam) and children Jack and Charlotte of Vienna, Va, Stephen Victor Park of State College; PA, sister-in-law Anne Gobin of McConnellsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Vic grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and moved back to Fulton County when he was 15. He graduated from McConnellsburg High School in  June 1943 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on October 18, 1943. He was sent to boot camp at Parris Island, SC, then to Camp Lejeune, NC for more training. He joined L-3-6 as a mortar man at Camp Tarawa on Hawaii. He participated in Saipan and Tinian campaigns, feint Iandings in Okinawa, and occupation of Japan.
     He worked as a brick and stone mason then spent 15 years at Letterkenny Army Depot. He enjoyed woodworking, antiques, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW, and served six years on the school board for McConnellsburg School District. He was a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.
     Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Victor Gobin to the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, 121 North Second Street McConnellsburg, PA  17233.
