Stella S. Wakefield

     Stella S. Wakefield, 93, of Needmore, PA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 21st. 2021, at UPMC Hospital, Altoona, PA. 
     Stella was born in Needmore, PA on October 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Annie Cunningham (Mellott) and William Lake Swope.
     She was the widow of Walter F. "Fred" Wakefield whom she married on September 24, 1949 and he passed away on April 25, 2013.
     Mrs. Wakefield graduated from Green Hill School, obtained her nursing degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and also helped her husband obtain his masters degree.  She then started her family and spent the rest of her life taking care of her family and extended family.  Stella was a member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, PA and enjoyed gardening, her cats, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
     She is survived by sons Dennis Alan Wakefield, of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Charles Wakefield, of Needmore, PA, Richard Jeffrey (husband of Janet) Wakefield, of Whitman, MA, Mark Steven (husband of Linda) Wakefield, of Franklin, MA, daughter Lisa Ann (wife of Ed) Wenschhof, of Needmore, PA, daughter-in-law Jeanne Wakefield Singer (wife of Thomas), of Hagerstown, MD, grandchildren Matthew Paul (husband of Robin), Patrick William (husband of Meghan), Rachel (wife of Marco) Vargas, Olivia, Benjamin, Emily (wife of Trent) Sowers, Sara, Rebecca, Edward, Jared, Spencer, great grandchildren Elliot, Jasper, Katie and Luke, Elias, Roul, Walter and Owen.  Stella was preceded in death by son William Russell Wakefield, sisters Ada Pauline DeShong, Ethel Angeline Mellott, brothers Earl Frank Swope, Roy Ephriam Swope, Norman Emmet Swope, William Foster Swope, Herman Eugene Swope and one infant brother.
     There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 from 6 to 8 PM   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
     Funeral services will be held at the Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 30th, 2021  with Pastor William Swope officiating. 
     Interment at Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery, Needmore, PA. 
     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sideling Hill Christian Church, 10424 Sipes Mill Rd., Needmore, PA 17238.
