Shirley Mae Barclay of McConnellsburg, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care facility, at seventy-eight years young. Born in Harrisonville, PA to Harry Brant Myers and Alice Rebecca Strait Myers, Shirley was the oldest of two siblings. She is survived by her brother, Harry E Myers, of Colorado Springs, CO.
After graduating high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably until her discharge upon completing her service time. Shirley loved bringing joy to others and carried this passion with her into her next profession, becoming a florist at Taylor’s Flower and Gift Shop in McConnellsburg where she worked for over a decade with the late Mary Lou Taylor. Following her time spent as a florist, Shirley joined the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, where she worked her way up to Store Manager of the McConnellsburg State Store, collectively serving over twenty-four years at various locations.
Shirley was a devout Christian and a member of the Siloam Methodist Church her entire life. She believed in God and tried to live her life following in his footsteps, living by example in every life she touched.
Although Shirley didn’t grow up a dog lover, she became one. She especially loved Labrador Retriever's, or a relative or mix of the breed, and could not be separated from her several dogs the latter part of her life.
Shirley was an avid reader - be it a good non-fiction novel or her favorite book, the Bible. She enjoyed long walks and talks with her mom. And she loved, absolutely loved the ocean.
Shirley had four children that she loved very much; Diane Boock of Chambersburg, Loren A Barclay of Harrisonville, Matthew U. Barclay of McConnellsburg (who passed away in 2012), and Keith E Barclay of Yardley, PA. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren - all of whom she loved with very fiber of her being. Nothing brought Shirley more joy than knowing her family were happy and safe.
The name Shirley means “bright meadow.” Shirley will be remembered for the light she brought to everyone she met, her peaceful and selfless demeanor, and the deep and unrelenting love she had for her family.
