Russell Mellott Obituary

Russell D. Mellott, 66, of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home with family nearby on Thursday, December 8th, 2022.   A lifelong Fulton County resident, he loved to be with family and friends.
Russell, nicknamed Dickie, or Dick as he grew older, was born in McConnellsburg, PA, on March 1, 1956.  He was the son of the late Jenny G Mellott. He is survived by his sister, Donna Chambers, and brother-in-law Jim Chambers of Warfordsburg, PA.
Dick loved to hunt and was expert with a rifle. When he wasn’t physically able to hunt anymore, he loved to just hang around the other guys, listening to their stories as they worked on cars or just watching wildlife. His heart seemed to be a thousand times bigger than his body as he was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Dick loved and owned many dogs and he especially enjoyed bringing treats for his friend’s dogs every time he visited. He was a loyal
friend and family member, always committed to helping in any way possible right to the end.
As a young man, he lovingly took care of his mother, grandmother and uncle making sure their needs were always met. He loved to work around the farm on tractors and use his hands to build things, including wood cabinetry. Later, when he became more physically challenged, we learned he was very talented at figuring out computers, printers and electrical equipment. He truly was skilled in a “MacGyver” kind of way, able to design and create things from parts and pieces to solve a problem.
When his health declined further, Dick loved to watch TV especially westerns, and the 1960s and 70s shows. He got really excited when he was able to watch and record live wrestling nearly every night on satellite TV!
The simple things, like a text message, a phone call, or card from family or friends, always meant the most to him. And, he was thrilled when local friends and neighbors took the time to stop by and say hello. Dick loved his entire family and always asked about them including distant family members—individually by name. He followed and remembered everyone on both sides of our family.
His family will miss him and his jokes, his smile, the teasing and always his good humor.
