Lawrence Harley "Ike" Bivens

 Lawrence Harley "Ike" Bivens, 95, of Big Cove Tannery, PA passed away Thursday, February 17th, 2022 at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA. 
     Ike was born in Big Cove Tannery, PA on January 30, 1927, the son of the late Myrtle (Lynch) and Harry  Bivens.  He was the widower of Audrey L. (Ray) Bivens whom he married on August 18, 1948 and she passed away on July 6, 2019.
     He was a member of the James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge, Jaffa Shriners, Harrisburg Consistory and Tall Cedars of Lebanon.  Ike was a heavy equipment operator and retired from Penn DOT.  After retiring, he drove school bus for 20 years.
     He was a farm boy at heart and enjoyed planting and caring for a large garden.  Ike always shared his harvest with friends and neighbors.  He enjoyed making wine and reading, especially James Patterson novels. Ike always liked to hunt mushrooms, squirrels and deer. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     He is survived by daughters Cheryl (wife of Dale) Humbert, Cindy (wife of Robert A.) Strait both of Big Cove Tannery, PA, sister Beulah Paylor, of McConnellsburg, PA, grandchildren Robert L. Strait and companion Karen Sites, of Warfordsburg, PA, Jamie (wife of Chris) Long, of Mount Joy, PA, Chris Humbert and fiance Kimberly Kidwell, of Leesburg, VA, Darcy (wife of Troy) Thompson, of Mount Pleasant, SC, great grandchildren Zachary Humbert, Brianna Strait and Bryn Long.  Ike was preceded in death by sisters Thelma Fields, Mary Edna Snyder, brothers Frank D., Bruce O. and H. Clyde Bivens.
     Funeral service will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 21st, 2022 with Pastor Neil Ray and Deacon Meredith Shives officiating.  Visitation will be two hours before the service on Monday at the funeral home.
     A Masonic service will also be held on Monday at 10:45 AM at the funeral home
     Interment at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
