Kenneth "Vernon" Rouzer, 95, of Harrisonville, PA, passed away Saturday, August 6th, at UPMC Osteopathic Community Hospital, Harrisburg, PA.
Vernon was born in Knobsville, PA on June 22, 1927, a son of the late Velma Elizabeth (Glunt) and Charles E. "Ted" Rouzer. He was the husband of Mae E. (Murphy) Rouzer, whom he married on October 2, 1948.
Vernon joined the United States Marines after high school. He then worked for over forty years doing pipeline construction. After retiring from the pipeline, Vernon drove tractor trailer till he was in his eighties. He obtained his pilots license in the early 1950's before becoming the first person in Fulton County to have a licensed airport in 1966. The airport was known as "Flying R Airport". Vernon loved planes and flying. He was a member of AOPA (Aircraft Operator Pilot's Association), was an avid reader and enjoyed tinkering on his farm. Vernon was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbors or anyone that needed help.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Gwen (wife of Dane "Butch") Seiders, of McConnellsburg, PA, Glenda A. Rouzer (companion of Doug Hammond), of Harrisonville, PA, sons Gary A. (wife of Carol) Rouzer, of Harrisonville, PA, Gale A. Rouzer, of Harrisonville, PA, Gregory "Chip" Rouzer, of Harrisonville, PA, brother George L. Rouzer, of Chambersburg, PA, sisters Sandra Phyllis (wife of Clyde) Brant, of Harrisonville, PA and Sherlyn Moseby, of McAlisterville, PA. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. In addition to his family, he is also survived by his dog "Bella" which he loved very much. He was preceded in death by a sister Bessie Louise Bangma.
Services will be private at the convenience of family.
