James F. "Jim" Smith, 77, of Big Cove Tannery, PA, passed away Monday, August 7th, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA.
Jim was born in Hagerstown, MD on April 14, 1946, a son of the late Hope Louemma (Mellott) and Glen Franklin Smith. He was the husband of Inga J. (Ferry) Smith, who he married on February 14, 1987.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had a true love of God, Family and Country. Ten days after retirement, Jim went to work for the local VFW in McConnellsburg, PA, which allowed him to help local organizations. Jim kept himself busy tinkering with his flowers, doing chores with his tractor, taking short rides around "the block" looking for deer and watching old western shows. He especially enjoyed going up to get ice cream or going out for breakfast...lunch...or dinner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Laura A. (wife of Brian) Thatcher, of Camp Hill, PA, Dr. Julie F. ( wife of Rudolf) Harper of Crestview, FL, son Dr. Andrew James Franklin Smith, of Ann Arbor, MI, sisters Phyllis (wife of Donald) Bard, of Needmore, PA, Patricia JoAnne Coffman, of St. Thomas, PA. and Jan (wife of David) Sparks, of Mercersburg, PA. Jim is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Chloe, Michael, Alexander and Nicholas Thatcher and Evan, Bryce and Sophia Harper. He was preceded in death by his first wife Arlene (McMullen) Smith, his brother Gerald L. "Jerry" Smith, his in-laws Bill and Erma McMullen and his emotional support cat "Raggs".
There will be a visitation held on Saturday, August 12th from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.
Funeral services will be at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 13th, with Pastor Donald Bard officiating. There will also be one hour of visitation held prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be at Union Cemetery McConnellsburg, PA. Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim, may be made to the Dialysis Care Center 214 Peach Orchard Rd. McConnellsburg, Pa 17223.
