Edna M. Strait

  Edna M. Strait, 92, of Harrisonville, PA, passed away Saturday, May 15th, at her residence.  

     Edna was born in Harrisonville, PA on November 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Blanche B. (Cromer) and Samuel R. Hess.  She was the widow of Grover "Tuck" Raymond Strait, whom she married on July 27, 1945.  He preceded her in death on July 1, 1983.

     Edna is survived by her daughter Judy E. (wife of Don) Eisaman, of Harrisonville, PA and son Gerald "Gerry" (husband of Carol) Strait, of Harrisonville, PA.  She is also survived by four grandchildren Jeff (husband of Christi) Eisaman of Bedford, PA, Rebecca (wife of Nicholas) Rotondo of Bridgeport, PA, Gerre R. (husband of Regina) Strait of Severn, MD, Cherina A. (wife of Koby) Cutchall of Harrisonville, PA, eleven great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by brothers Harry and Norman Hess.

     In her younger years Edna worked at Sagners in McConnellsburg before becoming the first Manager of the Sheetz in McConnellsburg, which she was very proud of.  While working at Sheetz. she also worked at the Howard Johnson's in Breezewood and Cove Valley.  Edna was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg Legion Auxillary and a member of the VFW Post 655 McConnellsburg, PA.  She enjoyed gardening, which included raising vegetables and flowers,  she also enjoyed reading, especially the Washington Post and the Fulton County News.  Edna was also  a very accomplished butcher, she loved to share her knowledge on how to properly skin and  process deer and hogs.  She loved her family very much,  she was especially  proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

     A Celebration of Life will be held at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 5th, with Pastor Rebecca Cutchall and Monsignor Ronald Peter Popivchak officiating.  There will be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service.   

      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grane Hospice Care 115 Union Ave. Altoona, PA 16602. 

     Interment will be at Sideling Hill Christian Church Cemetery Needmore, PA.
