Catherine E. Shives

     Catherine E. Shives, 92, of Saint Thomas, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. 

     Catherine was born in Needmore, PA on September 10, 1930, a daughter of the late Maria P. (Strait) and Russell D. Mellott.  She was the widow of Francis Robert  "Bob" Shives, whom she married on June 23, 1951.  He preceded her in death on July 13, 2012.

     Catherine was a homemaker, in her younger years she worked at Stanley Company in Chambersburg, PA as a seamstress.  She was a member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, PA.  Catherine enjoyed gardening, sewing, exercising with her SilverSneakers group and she loved her family very much. 

     She is survived by her daughter LaDonna K. Musser, of Saint Thomas, PA, son David R. Shives, of State Line, PA, sister Mary Jean Tarner, of McConnellsburg, PA and brother Henry D. Mellott, of Utica, MI.  She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by sisters Juanita B. Frost and Alma R. Fritz.

     There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. 

     Funeral services will be at the Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 12th,  with Pastor William Swope officiating.  There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Wednesday.   

     Interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg, PA.
