William D. Peightel, 94, of East Dutch Corner Rd., McConnellsburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 in San Marcos, CA.
William was born in McConnellsburg, PA on October 14, 1916, the son of the late Amos D. and Mary (Daniels) Peightel. He was the husband of Helen A. "Pat" (McCune) Peightel of San Marcos, CA, whom he married on August 22, 1942.
Mr. Peightel served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant in WW II under General Eisenhower and was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force. He received a personal commendation from General Eisenhower and the La Croix De Guerre 1940 Avec Pal Me by the Belgian government which is the highest honor to a non-Belgian native.
William was a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson, AZ, the Elks Club in Chambersburg, PA, the VFW in Mercersburg, PA, the American Legion Post# 561 in McConnellsburg, PA and was a retired vice president of Tucson Gas & Electric in Tucson, AZ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by Daughter Patricia Abbie (wife of Randolph) Cole of San Marcos, CA, Nephew William Trogler of Chambersburg, PA and Cousin Warren Daniels of McConnellsburg, PA.
Religious Service at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, PA, at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 with Pastor John Godissart and Father Joseph Nale officiating.
Interment at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
There will be visitation on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
