Willard Deshong, Sr.

Willard F. DeShong, Sr., 100, a resident of the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit and formerly of Needmore, PA passed away Friday, February 13th, 2015 at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA. Willard was born in Needmore, PA on January 27, 1915, the son of the late Mary Louetta (Shives) and Wellington Bland DeShong.  He was the widower of Mildred G. (Kegg) DeShong whom he married on March 31, 1947 and she passed away on October 28, 2005. Mr. DeShong graduated from Green Hill High School in 1933, served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Cross Forks, PA from 1933 to 1934 and served in the U.S. Army as a S/Sgt in WW II from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, PA where he served as a trustee, was on the cemetery committee and taught Sunday school there for many years.  Mr. DeShong retired in 1982 from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission  where he was a tunnel guard. Willard is survived by Sons Willard F. (husband of Cheryl) DeShong, Jr. of Shippensburg, PA, Thomas H. (husband of Mary Lou) DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, Paul R. (husband of Gaye) DeShong of Annville, PA, Alan B. (husband of Lisa K.) DeShong of Harrisonville, PA, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by sisters Ruth Schetrompf, Marden Strait, brother Forrest DeShong and great grandson Noah DeShong. Religious Service at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19th, 2015  with Pastor Bill Swope officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18th, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM.   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Interment at Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery, Needmore, PA. Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sideling Hill Christian Church, 10424 Sipes Mill Road, Needmore, PA 17238.
