V. Louise (Shipley) Shanholtz, 96, of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away peacefully at Pennknoll Village nursing home, Everett, PA, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
She was born on June 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Conda and Dorothy (Elbin) Shipley. She was the widow of Julian Oscar Shanholtz, who she married on August 15, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2017.
She was faithful to the Lord Jesus, a farmer's wife and mother. She at times supplemented the family income working outside of the farm, working at the Tomato Cannery in Buck Valley, Motor Haven Restaurant in Warfordsburg, PA, Town Hill Restaurant on Old Route 40 in Little Orleans, MD, and at London Town Sewing Factory in Hancock, MD. She also worked with Gladys Sigel, running the fryer at the Buck Valley festivals and she also worked on the Election Board. All this along with gardening, canning, milking, sewing, baking, cooking three meals a day, keeping the house clean and raising kids, she loved it all. Later, she started quilting and enjoyed quilting parties with friends and neighbors, and she gave many quilts away.
Surviving are her three sons and one daughter; Allen (husband of Barbara) Shanholtz, of Fort Worth TX, Darlene (wife of Rick) Harr, of Needmore, PA, Mark (husband of Barbara) Shanholtz, of Buck Valley, PA, Dean (husband of Angie) Shanholtz, of Buck Valley, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren; Dewain Shanholtz-Clarke, Jason and Kyle Shanholtz, Randee Stepanik, Lindee Winfield, Curtis and Craig LeGrotte, Josh and Dorothy Hakakian and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Jean Shanholtz, sister Violet Younker and brothers Robert Shipley, and Willard "Jack" Shipley.
Funeral services will be held at the Buck Valley Christian Church, Warfordsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 24, 2025, with Pastor Bill Swope and Pastor Milton Morris officiating. There will be one hour of visitation held prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Buck Valley Christian Church Cemetery, Warfordsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Buck Valley Cemetery or charity of your choice.
