Obituary

Sheldon W. Mellott, 82, of Florida, formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 in Florida.

Sheldon was born on November 18, 1943 in Needmore, PA. He was the son of the late Blaine L.W. and Ditha M. (Truax) Mellott. He was the husband of Judith A. (Mellott) Mellott, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 19.

He was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Greencastle, PA, and was involved in several organizations, including the Gideons, the Franklin County Builders Association, and Child Evangelism Fellowship. He was also a very proud Marine, having served his country during the Vietnam era.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Jacqualine (wife of David) Mumma of Greencastle, PA, and Scott (husband of Darla) Mellott of Needmore, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Mellott of Shiremanstown, PA; brothers, Foster (husband of Barbara) Mellott of Needmore, PA and Virgil Mellott of Needmore, PA; grandchildren, Joshua (husband of Lizzy) Mumma, Kaitlyn Mumma, Ryan (husband of Alisa) Mellott, Austin (husband of Caitlyn) Mellott; and two great-grandchildren, Bryce Mumma and Hudson Mellott. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Orville Mellott, Mabel Mellott, Treva Starr, Mary Miles and infant sister, Evelyn Mellott.

Sheldon will be remembered as a man whose warmth, generosity, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew him. He found joy in life's simple pleasures - playing games with friends and family, sharing laughter around the table, and always offering a helping hand to anyone in need.

An avid hunter, Sheldon cherished the time spent outdoors with his friends, where stories and camaraderie were as treasured as the hunt itself. He loved traveling and exploring new places, but his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, creating memories that will live on in their hearts.

Sheldon's kindness, loyalty, and love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is one of friendship, adventure, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved most.

A private graveside service will be held for the family. Interment will be at Sideling Hill Christian Church Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on August 15, 2026 at Grace Bible Church, Greencastle, PA from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 AM.

Flowers may be sent to Grace Bible Church. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Bible Church (www.mygracebible.com) or Child Evangelism Fellowship (www.franklincef.com) in Sheldon's honor.
