Samuel A. "Sam" Metz

Samuel "Sam" A. Metz, 71, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away Thursday, December 16th, at UPMC Pinnacle Hospital, Harrisburg, PA. Sam was born in McConnellsburg, PA on November 21, 1950, a son of the late Anne  (Lammie) and Harold A. Metz.  He was the husband of Sherry D. (Hann) Metz, whom he married on July, 6 1991. Sam served in the United States Army . He worked at Manitowoc in Shady Grove, PA from 1969 to 1999 as a Production Control Superviser before going to Olympic Steel in Chambersburg, PA from 2000 to 2015 as a material buyer.  He earned his business degree from Penn State Mont Alto in 2005.  He was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association and a member of the American Legion Post #561.  He was also a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, which led him into becoming a very active volunteer with Loves Closet. Sam had many things in life that he liked to do such as gardening, cooking, going out to eat,  being outdoors, attending car shows and helping others.  He would help at various auctions locally as a cashier clerk and going to auctions and yard sales was something that he enjoyed doing with his wife. He enjoyed watching TV especially shows about classic cars, older TV shows and even the Hallmark channel with his wife.  Sam also liked to read, especially his Bible.  He also enjoyed doing puzzle books, especially the hard Sudoku puzzles.  Sam was meticulous and very well organized in everything that he did in life. In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by his daughter Sherri S. (wife of Gregory) Bailey, of Mercersburg, PA, brothers David (husband of Diana) Metz, of Rock Springs, WY, William Metz, of McConnellsburg, PA, Harold (husband of Ginger) Metz, of McConnellsburg, PA, sisters Sheila (wife of Dave) Scamardella, of McConnellsburg, PA and Sarah Metz, of Hagerstown, MD.  He is also survived by four grandchildren Madison Bailey, Cameron Bailey, Samantha Metz, Shiloh Huntsberry and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son Samuel A. Metz Jr and a brother Steve Metz. Funeral services will be held at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 21st,  with Pastor Joshua Davinsizer officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery McConnellsburg, PA.  Those in attendance are asked to follow the CDC guidelines for COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sam to McConnellsburg United Methodist Church  121 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
