Obituary

Ryan Edward Unger, 77, of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away March 31, 2026, at Doey's House, in Hagerstown, MD after a very brief battle with lung cancer.

Ryan was born on December 24, 1948, in Martinsburg,WV. He was the son of the late Fred Edward Unger and Lena Jane (Mellott) Pryor. He was the husband of Tana (Mellott) Unger, who he married on August 10, 1974.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his mother, his loving daughter Amanda Over and son-in-law John, his brother-in-law Roger Mellott, and three cousins.

Ryan was employed by JLG Industries, Inc. in McConnellsburg, PA for 33 years where he served as a welder, custom fabricator and Research & Development Technician. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Duluth LPD-6 from June 1968-June 1972 during the Vietnam War where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, a Silver Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.

In addition to his extreme love of his family and many friends, Ryan's greatest joy in life was his time spent outdoors hunting, fishing, mowing lawns, and wood cutting.

Ryan was a member of the Amaranth Church of the Brethren where he once served as a trustee and member of the pastoral committee. Ryan's love of family, friends, and his hobbies were all built upon his love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We know that he is now resting in His loving arms surrounded by the friends and loved ones who have gone on before him.
