Rheon O. Gelvin

Rheon Owen Gelvin, 85, Hustontown, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore, Md.

Born May 8, 1939 in Fort Littleton, he was the son of the late Clarence and Beulah Gelvin. He was married to Patsy (Hess) Gelvin on July 8, 1957. She survives at home. Rheon was employed at Ellis Yingling's Esso Station in McConnellsburg; an iron worker with Local 404; an independent truck driver; and an industrial hygienist with Analytical Laboratories. He also served on the Forbes Road School Board for several terms and was also the Fulton County Democratic chairman for several years.

Surviving are four sons: Randy and wife Trudy; Jeff and wife Stacy; Steve and wife Tammy; and Tim and wife Kathy; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Lee; a son, Brian Mark; a brother, Edwin; and a grandson, Chad M. Gelvin. Rheon is remembered for his love of horses and mules, running his coonhounds, hunting and fishing, and especially his love for his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Rheon had a love for all animals, but had a special bond with his Shih Tzus, most recently "Buttons" and "Little Girl." He was a 1958 graduate of Hustontown High School where he excelled in baseball, soccer and track. He holds the Fulton County record for the 16-pound shot put throw. He attended Hustontown Church of God and Hustontown United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM at the funeral home, with Pastor Debbie Strait officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
