Naomi R. (Sipes) Mellott

Naomi R. Mellott, 89, a resident of the Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, McConnellsburg, PA and formerly of Needmore, PA passed away Friday, October 24th, 2014 at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA. Naomi was born in Harrisonville, PA on September 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Laura (Schooley) and Rex  Sipes.  She was the wife of Willard L. Mellott whom she married on July 18, 1945. Mrs. Mellott graduated from Green Hill High School in 1944 and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore, PA.  Early in life, she worked for a short period of time at the Robert Shaw Airplane Factory in Greensburg, PA, Letterkenny and waitressed and cooked at the G&V Restaurant in Needmore, PA. Naomi was also a homemaker all her life working the family farm alongside her husband of sixty-nine years milking cows, gardening and canning.  Farm hands helping harvest field crops have talked about the delicious meals Naomi would prepare and have stated "they would have worked for free just to get Naomi's home cooking". In addition to her husband, she is survived by Daughters Connie (wife of Larry) Hamil of Needmore, PA, Denise Grissinger of McConnellsburg, PA, Donna (wife of Curtis) Brant of Harrisonville, PA, Sons Lynn (husband of Gloria) Mellott of Hancock, MD, Kevin (husband of Susie) Mellott of Needmore, PA, Sisters Betty Buterbaugh of Cito, PA, Jane Batdorff of Harrisonville, PA, Brother Glenn Sipes of Needmore, PA, Grandchildren Linette (wife of David) Printz, Darren (husband of Becky) Hamil, Kristen (wife of Chuck) Sexton, Amanda (wife of Drew) Diehl, Caitlin Mellott, Carrie (wife of Dustin) Gingerich, Kellie (wife of Ted) Gress, Evan (husband of Emily) Brant and was blessed with eighteen great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by sister Nora Sherbuck and brother Raymond Sipes. Religious Service at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore, PA at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 27th, 2014  with Pastor Roger Truax, Pastor Mac Miller and Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 26th, 2014 from 2 to 8 PM.  at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Monday at the church. Interment at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Needmore, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery Association, in care of Linda Mellott, 5337 Sipes Mill Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.
