Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Baker

Mary Elizabeth (Peck) Baker (Liz), of McConnellsburg, PA and formerly of Tyrone, PA departed from her earthly home on Monday, January 29th, 2024. Liz was born in Chambersburg, PA on February 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Howard C. and Mary Culler Peck, the wife of the late William H. (Bill) Baker and the sister of the late Carl H. (Howdy) Peck. She was a graduate of McConnellsburg High School, class of 1947, Shippensburg Teacher's College, now Shippensburg University and Pennsylvania State University.  Liz began her thirty-four year teaching career (1951-1985) in Blair County, teaching elementary classes in Altoona and Tyrone, PA. In 1954, she married William H. (Bill) Baker making their home in Tyrone beginning their fifty-two and a half years of marriage.  Bill died in 2006. Liz was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tyrone, PA, the Eastern Star, the PSEA and NEA, McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends Association and the Fulton County Historical Society. Reading, antiquing, playing cards, Penn State football and March Madness basketball were a few of her pastimes.  She also enjoyed making jelly and pickles for her friends. Liz was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother.  She is survived by her sister-in-law Sylvia M. Peck and two nephews David L. Peck and Kenneth R. (husband of Sonya) Peck and their family, great nephew Dr. Alex Peck and great niece Jenna Peck Reichenbach (Matt) and two great great grand nieces Lucy Reichenbach and Margo Reichenbach, sister-in-law Judith Baker Long (Gary) and their family Dr. Steve, Cynthia Ridgway and Melinda Hemcher. Services will be private with interment at Blair Memorial Park in Bellwood, PA. Arrangements were made by the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.howardlsipes.com.
