Mary E. DeShong, 87, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Thursday, August 8th, 2013 at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA.
Mary was born in McConnellsburg, PA on July 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Walter and Ruth (Souders) Gress. She was the widow of James Lee DeShong, whom she married on August 3, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1995.
Mary was a housewife and a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church Needmore, PA for many years. She was employed by Bard and Cisney Grocery Store and was last employed by the Central Fulton School District.
She is survived by her daughters Norma J. Helman (wife of John) of McConnellsburg, PA, Cheryl A. Wible (wife of Bob) of McConnellsburg, PA, Joanne Schultheiss (wife of Paul) of Chambersburg, PA, son James Lee DeShong Jr. (husband of Sharon) of McConnellsburg, PA and sister Erma Chamberlain of McConnellsburg, PA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren Christine Christman, Tracy Kendall, Melissa Randler, Kimberly Golden, Jamey and Whitney DeShong, Erin Cordell, Katrina Smith, Vincent, Joe and Anthony Helman, Justin Schultheiss , Shelly Blair, and 11 great grandchildren Ethan and Kylie Golden, Casey and Lindsey Randler, Michaela Kendall, Mandy Hykes, Matthew Christman, Shelby Cordell, Regan and Kiah Marshalleck and Dante Smith, special nieces and nephews Barbara Gress, Marie Bennett, Tina Gress, Dinah Chamberlain, Larry Gress Jr., and Mont Chamberlain. She was preceded in death by a son Denny DeShong, sister Millie Wentz and brother Lawrence Gress.
Religious Service will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 12th, with Rev. William Swope and Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating.
Interment at Union Cemetery McConnellsburg, PA.
There will be visitation on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 2 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM. at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation held one hour before the service at the funeral home on Monday.
