Mary A. Deshong

Mary A. DeShong, 89, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Saturday, March 25th, 2017 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA. Mary was born in Charleston, WV on April 2, 1927, the daughter of the late Sally (Shanklin) and Edward P. Harford.  She was the widow of Thomas A. DeShong. Mrs. DeShong was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonville, PA and attended the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.  She also was a member of the American Legion Post #561 Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post #655 Ladies Auxiliary both in McConnellsburg, PA.  Mary was a beautician in Maryland in her younger years, was a cook at Pine Crest Inn in Harrisonville, PA and also was a homemaker. She is survived by sons Thomas E. (husband of Norma) DeShong, Sr. of McConnellsburg, PA, Timothy M. DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, John D. (husband of Linda) DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, Darrell C. (husband of Debbie) DeShong of Drayden, MD, sister-in-law Phyllis Reel of Harrisonville, PA, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by sons James R. and Phillip Lee DeShong, brothers Clayton, Marion and James Harford. Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28th, 2017  with Jeremy Fletcher officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 27th, 2017 from 2 to 8 PM at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
