Martha "Betty" Kuhn 100, of McConnellsburg PA, passed away August 27, 2025 in the Long Term Care Unit at the Fulton County Medical Center.
Betty was born in Websters Mills, PA on May 19,1925, a daughter of the late William L. and Ruth (Knable) Kuhn. She is survived by a daughter Shannon Carbaugh DeShong and a son Jim (husband of Faye) Butts all of McConnellsburg, PA. When asked, Betty attributed her long life to avoiding doctors and pharmacies.
As a single mother she provided for her children through hard work. She worked at the Greyhound Bus Stop in McConnellsburg, PA. Later, she worked as a presser at the Sagner Sewing Factory until it closed. She also worked at the Keystone Kustard Kitchen in Knobsville, PA. She finished her working career as a cook at the American Legion Post 561 in McConnellsburg, PA.
In her spare time she enjoyed working in her flowers and going to yard sales in pursuit of finding that Avon bottle she didn't have. But mostly she loved keeping her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She graciously kept her grandson Keith for thirty years so his parents could work. She attended the Evangel Assembly of God Church in McConnellsburg, PA.
She is survived by her brother Denver Kuhn of McConnellsburg, PA. She is also survived by her six grandchildren; Keith Butts, Darron (husband of Anita) Butts, Shelley (wife of Jeff) Keebaugh, Kirby (husband of Katina) Carbaugh, Dena (wife of Toby) McGarvey and Dixie (wife of Shawn) Kelley, sixteen great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters ; Gladys Youse, Jessie Hayes, Margaret Racila, Bannie"Dimple" Keefer, Georgia" Georgie" DeShong, Marian Mellott, Charlotte Goetz and brothers William R. Kuhn, Blair Kuhn, Grover Kuhn, infant brother Lee Kuhn and grandson Jeff Mellott.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, monetary donations in memory of Betty, may be made to the Long Term Care Activity Fund at the Fulton County Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, with Pastor Denny Hunsinger officiating. There will be one hour of visitation held prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
