Lois Jean Hess Velasquez

Lois Jean Hess Velasquez, 78, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at her residence. Lois was born in Todd Township, PA on April 27, 1935, the daughter of the late George Preston and Goldie May (Carbaugh) DeShong.  She was the wife of Louie  Velasquez whom she married on September 18, 2010. She was a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church in McConnellsburg, PA where she was active with the Sunshine Seniors and very faithful to the King's Kid Program. Lois was also a member of the Hustontown Volunteer Fire Company.  She enjoyed sewing and quilt making and also was a homemaker. In addition to her husband, she is survived by Son Michael R. (fiance Anna Defibaugh) Hess of McConnellsburg, PA, Daughters Kimberly A. (wife of Kevin) Mowen of Harrisonville, PA, Lori A. (wife of Joey) Helser of McConnellsburg, PA, Step-Daughters Joanne (wife of Dave) McKinney of Lancaster, PA, Marianne (wife of James) Bachman of Lancaster, PA, Paula (wife of Ken) Thurgate of Jericho, VT, Vicki Ostrander of Lititz, PA, Ariane Sanchez of Starr, SC, Step-Son Terry (husband of Hillary) Velasquez of Lititz, PA, Brothers Donald R. DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, Marvin L. DeShong of Hustontown, PA, Harold E. DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, Grandchildren Jordan M. Hess of Chambersburg, PA, Nicholas R. Hess, Cory M. Helser and Sierra M. Helser all of McConnellsburg, PA, sixteen step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by first husband Robert E. Hess whom she married on April 17, 1954 and he passed away on August 9, 2006 and brother Robert Blaine DeShong. Religious Service at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 7th, 2014  with Pastor John Hodge officiating. Interment at Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA. There will be visitation on Thursday, March 6th, 2014 from 2 to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Friday at the church .
