Lena P. Richards Bergstresser, 96, a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home and formerly of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA.
Lena was born in Leidig, PA on March 16, 1917, the daughter of the late Chester and Grace (Mellott) Brant. She was the widow of Lamont "Pete" Bergstresser.
Mrs. Bergstresser was a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, attended the Cito United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, PA, member of the Fulton County Chapter of the Eastern Star #519 and the Farm Women Association. She was a farmer, a justice of the peace in Ayr township during the 1960's, was a long time cook at the Lockins Gun Club in Big Cove Tannery, PA and also was a retired LPN at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA after working there for thirty plus years. Mrs. Bergstresser enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, hunting in her younger days, dancing and music.
She is survived by Son Ronald E. "Buck" (husband of Carol) Richards of Needmore, PA, Daughter B. Jane (wife of David) Heckman of Chambersburg, PA, Sister Ferne Vensel of Bedford, PA, five grandchildren; Debbie Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg, PA, Lannette Feathers of Mt. Union, PA, Diane Golden of Hancock, MD, Greg Deneen of McConnellsburg, PA and Denise Conley of Warfordsburg, PA, two step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one step-great grandchild, five great great grandchildren and two step-great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her first husband Harvey Richards, sister Evelyn Mort, brothers Harry "Dick" Brant, Merrill "Bud" Brant and one great grandchild Kara Golden.
Religious Service at Cito United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 with Pastor John Godissart officiating.
Interment at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
There will be visitation on Monday, March 25th, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
An Eastern Star service will be held on Monday at 7:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
