Julian O. Shanholtz, 97, of Warfordsburg, PA passed away Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD.
Julian was born in Northcraft, PA on September 8, 1920, the son of the late Elizabeth L. (Klavuhn) and Kelly Franklin Shanholtz. He was the husband of Velda "Louise" (Shipley) Shanholtz whom he married on August 15, 1945.
He was a member of the Fairview Christian Church in Artemas, PA and served in the Army during WWII where he guarded German prisoners in Tennessee and was honorably discharged on April 13, 1945.
After the war, Mr. Shanholtz worked at the American Oil Co. in Cumberland, Maryland from 1945 to 1951. The dairy farm became his full time job. He watched a handful of milk cows grow to over 100 head. In 1985, the barn burned and he retired from milking at age 65. Mr. Shanholtz then started to sell Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners, a different adventure each time out exploring a new road he'd never been on and meeting lots of wonderful people.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Allen (husband of Judy) Shanholtz of Ft. Worth, TX, Mark (husband of Barbara) Shanholtz of Buck Valley, PA, Dean (husband of Angie) Shanholtz of Buck Valley, PA, daughter Darlene (wife of Rick) Harr of Needmore, PA, nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter Barbara Jean Shanholtz, sister Lena Sullivan, brothers Franklin, Harrison, Lawrence, Lenard, Lee, James and Robert Shanholtz.
Visitation will be Friday, December 8th, 2017 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.
Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 8th, 2017 with Pastor William Swope and Pastor Milton Morris officiating.
Interment at Buck Valley Christian Church Cemetery, Warfordsburg, PA.
