Joe E. "Butch" Smith, Jr., 67, of Harrisonville, PA passed away Thursday, May 14th, 2015 at his residence.
Joe was born in Everett, PA on May 15, 1947, the son of Virginia G. (Reighard) Mostoller of Everett, PA and the late Joe E. Smith, Sr. He was the husband of Sylvia H. (Sponsler) Smith whom he married on November 29, 1969.
Mr. Smith graduated from Everett High School in 1965, served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt during the Vietnam War, was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, PA, the Dry Run American Legion Post# 232, was actively involved with the Breezewood Trucker Travel Ministry and had retired from Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, PA after thirty-six years.
Joe was an avid Steelers fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by sons Sean (husband of Trinity A.) Smith of Mercersburg, PA, Darrin (companion Hallie B. Rhoat) Smith of Harrisonville, PA, daughter Samantha (companion Gil Day) DeShong of Dry Run, PA, sisters Deborah A. (wife of Del) Hayes of Waynesboro, PA, Penny L. (wife of Rick A.) Shaw of Everett, PA, grandchildren Connor M. Johnson, Holden M. Smith, Bronson E. Smith, Kaele S. DeShong, Kaece L. DeShong, Gabe J. DeShong, Olivia N. Smith and Zoey M. Smith.
Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 18th, 2015 with Pastor Bill Bair and Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 17th, 2015 from 2 to 8 PM. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Interment at Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA.
