James E. Barton, Sr.

James "Jim" Elwood Barton, Sr., 68, of Warfordsburg, PA, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, at his residence.

Jim was born in McConnellsburg, PA on April 4, 1955, a son of the late Esta Marie (Everts) and George Calvin Barton.  He was the husband of Connie M. (Strait) Barton, who he married on April 30,  2011.

Jim was of the Christian faith.  He worked construction throughout his life.  Jim had a passion for hunting, fishing, gunsmithing and searching for arrowheads.  He especially enjoyed hunting the western states. He was a good story teller and also enjoyed furniture woodworking, reading a good book and spending time with his family, which he loved dearly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons James E. (husband of Stephanie) Barton, Jr., of Warfordsburg, PA, Kevin L. (husband of Brenda) Bain, of Hancock, MD, Brian L. Bain, of Breezewood, PA, daughter Loretta Shover, of Tampa, FL, brother Nelson (husband of Dotti) Barton, of Needmore, PA and sister Shirley Truax, of State College, PA.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Faith, Michael, Brian, Aaron, Morgan, Dalton, Alexis, Madison, Olivia, thirteen great grandchildren; Callie, Dalton, Makinna, Cammie, Greenleigh, Easton, Brynlee, Marshall, Kaelan, Cillian, Matty, Nico, Hayzleigh, several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends; Fora King, Gary Bradshaw and Greg Mellott.  He was preceded in death by brothers Calvin Barton, Timothy Barton and sister Christena Weller. There will be a memorial service held at the Cedar Grove Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024  with Pastor Brandon Hill officiating.  At Jim's request, there will be no viewing.
