Henry Warren Daniels, 92, of McConnellsburg, PA died in Orbisonia, PA at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014.
Born in McConnellsburg, PA on July 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry Floyd and Ella Mae (McClure) Daniels. On January 6, 1943, he married Bernice J. Bivens, who preceded him in death on March 12, 2001.
Mr. Daniels was a 1939 graduate of McConnellsburg High School and a 1941 graduate of Chambersburg Business College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the 101st Field Artillery, 26th Infantry Division, in the European Theater and earned a Bronze Star for his service during the Battle of the Bulge.
Henry worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and the First National Bank of McConnellsburg, where he served for over fifty years. He retired as President of the Bank and served for many years on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Daniels served over twenty years on the Southern Alleghenies Planning Commission, was a former Commander of American Legion Post 561, McConnellsburg, PA, a sixty year member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge, Chambersburg, PA, served as the Parade Marshal for 2012's Fulton Fall Folk Festival and was also the recipient of the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award.
He was also a longtime member of the American Legion, Pennsylvania Bankers Association, Fulton County Historical Society, the Shriners of America, the Yankee Division Veterans Association, the Fulton County Scottish Rite Club, and the St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he was a member for seventy-seven years. Henry also enjoyed travelling, woodworking, and watching auto racing.
Mr. Daniels is survived by his son Henry W. Daniels, Jr., (husband of Betty) of McConnellsburg,PA, three grandchildren, Scott Daniels (husband of Danelle) of McConnellsburg, PA, John Daniels (husband of Beth) of McConnellsburg, PA, Amanda Neal (wife of Brandon) of Chambersburg, PA, three great-grandchildren, Johnnie, Morgan, and Ella Daniels, all of McConnellsburg, PA and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sister Elizabeth Wood and brother Duane Daniels. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Funeral service will be Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA with Pastor Loy Garber officiating.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2014 from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home.
