Harold G. "Shorty" Bivens

Harold G. "Shorty" Bivens, 80, of Big Cove Tannery, PA passed away Monday, January 2nd, 2012 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA. Harold was born in Big Cove Tannery, PA on December 19, 1931, the son of the late Frank D. and Nina (Bain) Bivens.  He was the husband of Elizabeth E. (Morton) Bivens whom he married on November 7, 1952. He was an active sixty plus year member of the Big Cove Tannery St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge #774, a lifetime member of the McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Company and was self-employed as a Paving Contractor and an Excavating Contractor for sixty years.  Mr. Biven's also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Sons David H. (husband of Teresa) Bivens of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Randy W. (husband of Sheila) Bivens of McConnellsburg, PA, Sisters Martha Seville of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Alma (wife of Donald) Kinzie of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Katherine Ott of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Granddaughter Crystal D. (wife of Chad) Stepanik of Big Cove Tannery, PA,  Great grandsons Zane and Kiptyn Stepanik of Big Cove Tannery, PA, seven nieces and six nephews.  Preceded in death by one brother, three brother-in-laws, one niece, several aunts and uncles and his grandparents. A private Graveside Service will be held at Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg, PA, at the convenience of the family  with Pastor Christopher Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Cove Tannery St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in care of Karen Shives, 364 Ravensburg Road, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
