Gilbert E. "Gil" Deshong

Gilbert E. "Gil" DeShong, 84, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Friday, March 13th, 2015 at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA. Gil was born in Harrisonville, PA on February 14, 1931, the son of the late Regina (Decker) and Elvie  DeShong.  He was the husband of Donna L. (Bard) DeShong whom he married on June 7, 1952. Mr. DeShong was a member of the Knobsville United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge #774 in McConnellsburg, PA, the Fulton County Saddle Club, the Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club and was a past director of the Fulton County Fair Association.  He was a retired equipment operator from PennDOT, partner/owner of DeShong & Fetter's Construction Company and also was a deputy game warden for twenty-seven years.  Gil enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting.   He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who was happiest when spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Daughter Rhonda L. (wife of Mark) Weller of McConnellsburg, PA, Grandchildren Joni L. Dunkle, Toni L. Howell and Steven J. Weller all of McConnellsburg, PA, Great Grandchildren Zoe A. Hann, Jenna L. Howell, Joel L. Knepper, Jace L. Knepper and Brystan M. Weller.  Preceded in death by sisters Nettie Boisvert, Dorothy Hann, Blanche Strait, Anna Mae Clevenger, Esther Mellott, brothers Wishard DeShong, James Lee DeShong and George Oliver DeShong. Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 17th, 2015  with Pastor Bill Swope and Pastor Jean Swett officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 16th, 2015 from 2 to 8 PM.   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
