Gerald Theodore Mentzer, 88, formerly of Needmore, PA, passed from this life at the Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport, MD, September 10, 2014.
Born November 14, 1925 in Needmore, PA, he was the son of the late Keller Theodore and Viola Hope (Snyder) Mentzer.
A World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy, he was the "gunner" division unit protecting merchants ships as they made deliveries in India, southern Africa, South America and the United States.
He worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot for over 30 years before retiring.
His past-time enjoyment and hobby was raising honey bees and rendering honey that he sold to the surrounding community.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marie Mentzer on March 30, 2007; a great-grandson, Nathaniel Reaves in May of 2004; along with five brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon L. Duffey, and husband, Jeffrey, from Falling Waters, WV; one son, Nick T. Mentzer, and wife, Karen, from Charlotte, NC; and seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., 873 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, PA with Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Needmore Bible Church Cemetery, Needmore, PA.
Viewing will be held Monday two hours prior to funeral services at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home.
