Gerald L. "Jerry" Smith

Gerald L. "Jerry" Smith, 68, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at his residence. Jerry was born in Harrisonville, PA on March 31, 1948, the son of the late Hope Louemma (Mellott) and Glen Franklin Smith.  He was the husband of Trudy L. (Keefer) Smith whom he married on April 12, 1969. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the Vietnam War where he received the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal w/"V" Device, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device 1960, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge and was a sharpshooter. He was a member of the Webster Mills Free Brethren Church in McConnellsburg, PA, retired from Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, PA and then was a self-employed real estate manager in McConnellsburg, PA.  Jerry enjoyed hunting, gardening, spending time on his farm and visiting friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Joanna M. "Sis" (wife of Brian) Brady of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Jolinda C. "Jake" (wife of Larry) Wilson of McConnellsburg, PA, son Gerald L. "Jerry" (husband of Tamami) Smith II of Guam, sisters Phyllis Bard of Needmore, PA, Patricia Joanne Coffman-Miller of Florida, Jan Sparks of Mercersburg, PA, brother James Smith of Big Cove Tannery, PA, grandchildren Susan Smith, Gerald Smith III, Larry Wilson II, Beau Wilson, Hannah, Lynneah and Elaina Brady. Religious Service at Webster Mills Free Brethren Church, McConnellsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 7th, 2016  with Pastor David Hamilton and Pastor John Hodge officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 from 2 to 8 PM   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the Family.
