Gary Lee Gress Sr.

Gary Lee Gress Sr., 77, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away August 17, 2025, at his residence.

Gary was born in McConnellsburg, PA, on August 21, 1947, a son of the late Harold M. "Barney" Gress Sr. and Anna Elizabeth (Koser) Gress. He was the husband of Wanda K. (Zeger) Gress, whom he married on April 9, 1964.

He was a third-generation farmer, running his nearly 100-acre farm on Dutch Corner Road. Before retiring, he also spent 17 years working for PennDOT. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports, particularly baseball. He was a huge Pirates fan and coached baseball at various levels for years. Gary loved watching his grandson Wyatt play soccer, baseball, and basketball in high school, and he was especially proud of Wyatt's recent college pitching career, cheering him on from the stands.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by son; Gary "Sam" Gress Jr. of McConnellsburg, PA, daughter; Misty Hershey-Nace (wife of Bob) Nace, of McConnellsburg, PA, brother; Harold Gress Jr, of McConnellsburg, PA, brother; Dennis "Zeke" Gress, of McConnellsburg, PA, brother; Maynard (husband of Darlene) Gress, of Welsh Run, PA and grandson; Wyatt Hershey. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Hershey, and brothers, Dale, Ronald, and Fred Gress.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.

Funeral services will be held at the Evangel Assembly of God, McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM, on Friday, August 21, 2025 with Pastor Denny Hunsinger officiating. There will also be one hour of visitation held prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
