Francis R. "Bob" Shives

Francis Robert "Bob" Shives, 85, of  Saint Thomas, PA, died on Friday, July 13th, 2012 at his residence. Bob was born in Needmore, PA on August 31, 1926, the son of the late Henry Dayton and Olive B. (DeShong) Shives.  He was the husband of Catherine E. (Mellott) Shives, whom he married on June 23, 1951. He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church Needmore, Pa, where he served as a Deacon.  He worked as a Machinist at James River, Chambersburg, PA, before retiring in 1989.  He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II.  Bob enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening and wood working. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter LaDonna K. Musser of St. Thomas, PA, son David  R. Shives (husband of Donna) of State Line, PA,  sister Lena Mellott of Sanford, FL,  sister Madelyn Lehman of East Peoria, IL,  sister Shirley Walker of Chambersburg, PA, and brother William N. Shives of Chambersburg, PA.  He is also survived by  5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death  by 3 brothers; Guy, Gerald, George Shives and an infant sister. Religious Service will be held at the Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 10 :00 AM  on Wednesday, July 18th,  with Rev. William Swope officiating. Interment at Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg, PA. There will be visitation on Tuesday from 2 PM to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be one hour of visitaton before the service on Wednesday at the church. Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
