Elfriede Souders Parson

Elfriede Souders Parson, 84, of McConnellburg, PA, passed away Monday, May 31st, at the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care Center, McConnellsburg, PA.

Elfriede was born in Czechoslovakia, on September 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Maria (Kautzner) and Anton  Janda.  Her family migrated to Furth, Germany during WWll.  She arrived in McConnellsburg, PA in January of 1959 before becoming a proud citizen in November of 1960.  She was the widow of Harold W. Parson, whom she married on May 7, 1978.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2009.

She worked as a waitress, a cook and was also a homemaker.  Her last position was as a cook at the American Legion Post 373 in Greencastle, PA.  Elfriede enjoyed attending Booth Brother gospel concerts with her beloved friends.  She also enjoyed going to yard sales and cooking for others.

She is survived by her children Christine A. (wife of Gary) Thomas, of Chambersburg, PA, Susan  M. (wife of Kevin) Mellott, of Needmore, PA, Blair M. Souders, Jr., of Waterfall, PA, John W. (husband of Julie) Parson, of Sturgis, MI, brother Horst (husband of Pauline) Janda, of Waimate, New Zealand and sisters Christa (wife of Walter) Bienik and Alma (wife of Vladimir) Sokolovsky, of Furth, Germany.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son Tim Parson, brother Wilhelm Janda and an infant sister Analiese.

Funeral services will be held at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc, McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM  on Friday, June 4th,  with Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating.  There will be one hour of visitation held prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Shade Gap, PA.
