Dorothy H. Royal

Dorothy H. Royal, 82, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim, PA.

Dorothy was born in McConnellsburg, PA on April 22, 1941, a daughter of the late Janet (Bard) and Floyd  Swope.  She was the widow of John E. Royal, who she married in April of 1965.  He preceded her in death on October 1, 2010.

Dorothy was the Valedictorian of her graduating class of the Green Hill High School.  She worked for the Intermediate Unit 12 & 13 in her younger years before going to work at the Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community before retiring.  She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonville, PA.  Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Daryl J. (husband of Wendy) Royal, of Lititiz, PA, John F. (husband of Christine) Royal, of Manheim, PA, sisters Evelyn Clonch of Berkeley Springs, WV, Iola "Toots" (wife of Alfred "Ronnie" Zeger of Harrisonville, PA, Wilma (wife of Denny) Sowers of Waynesboro, PA, brothers Warren (husband of Mary) Swope of McConnellsburg, PA, Willis (husband of Barbara) Swope of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Leo (husband of Carolyn) Swope of Harrisonville, PA.  She is also survived by four grandchildren DJ Royal, Justin Royal, Bradley DeShong, Melissa Martz and nine great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Pamela L. DeShong, granddaughter Amber Royal, brothers Leroy Swope, Wallace Swope, M. Cloyd Swope and A. Donald Swope, sisters Freda Keebaugh, Pauline Swope and infant sister Doris Swope.

Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville, PA, at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 22nd,  with Pastor Willis Swope officiating.  There will be one hour of visitation held prior to the service at the church on Monday.  Interment will follow immediately after the service at the Pleasant Ridge Nazarene Cemetery Harrisonville, PA.
