Dean Wellington Strait, 79, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed from this life on Friday, September 20, 2024 at his residence.
He was born January 26, 1945, in Harrisonville, PA. He was the son of the late Marden (DeShong) and Floyd Strait. He was part of the last senior class of the Green Hill High School, which he graduated from in 1962. Dean served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign and Service Medals, and Marksman Rifle Commendation. Dean made his living as a heavy equipment operator, employed by various companies throughout his lifetime. Some of those companies being HB Mellott and P&W Excavating before retiring from Valley Quarries. He was a proud member of the Siloam Methodist Church in Harrisonville, PA. Dean played baseball in the county league for the Green Hill team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, finding mushrooms, and gardening. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member and past commander of McConnellsburg VFW Post 655, the American Legion Post 561 and the Harrisonville Eagles. He is survived by his wife at home, Susan (Keebaugh) Hanks, of McConnellsburg, PA, his daughter Kyndra B Strait, of Hustontown, PA, his brothers; Woodrow Strait, of Harrisonville, PA, Jackie Strait, of McConnellsburg, PA, his sister, Judy Strait, of Berkeley Springs, WV, and his best friend, Joey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister June Winter, brothers Randall and Terry "Tweedy" Strait, and son Chad Strait. There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Howard L Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Erik Sollenberger officiating. There will also be one hour of visitation held prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will follow immediately afterward at the Siloam Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA, with Military Honors conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard. Arrangements were made by the Howard L.
