Blair O. Daniels, 93, of Harrisonville, PA passed away Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA
Blair was born in Needmore, PA on October 18, 1922, the son of the late Myrtle (Mellott) and Oliver H. Daniels. He was the widower of Peggy (DeShong) Daniels whom he married on January 1, 1942 and she passed away on September 12, 2007.
Mr. Daniels served in the U.S. Army as a Pfc in WW II, was a member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, PA where he was the adult men's Sunday school teacher for over thirty years, former youth leader for many years, song leader and overall just an active member to his church. He was the Green Hill softball coach that was sponsored by the First National Bank for many years, wrote approximately ten gospel songs that were recorded, had a music ministry on WSKE radio in Everett, PA and also did live broadcasts on the radio in the Chambersburg and Greencastle areas.
Blair was a mail carrier for thirty years, worked for PennDOT for eight years and also farmed in his spare time. His love and knowledge for carpentry helped his family with getting all of their homes built. He enjoyed hunting, which his family considered him a master buck hunter because he was always able to harvest one when no one else was able too and after he turned eighty, he would rather watch them as opposed to shooting them. He enjoyed camping and took pride in his weedless gardens. Blair was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a Pirates fan.
He is survived by daughter Jeanne D. (wife of Hap) Swope of Harrisonville, PA, sons Gary D. (husband of Sharon) Daniels of Harrisonville, PA, Perry D. (husband of Lisa) Daniels of Stella, NC,
Kenny D. (husband of Amanda) Daniels of Harrisonville, PA, five granddaughters, eleven grandsons and forty-two great grandchildren. Preceded in death by sons Roger and Roy B. Daniels, brother Blaine and infant brother Donald Daniels, one infant brother, sisters Evelyn Fix, Polly Madden, Beatrice Morton and Beulah Kerlin.
Religious Service at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 20th, 2016 with Pastor Bill Swope and Pastor Roger Truax officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, August 19th, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Saturday at the church..
Interment at Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery, Needmore, PA.
