Blaine T. Gordon

January 5, 1937 — March 23, 2025

Needmore, PA

Blaine Thomas Gordon, 88, of Needmore, PA, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Blaine was born in Chambersburg, PA, on January 5, 1937, son of the late Thomas R. and Goldie E. (Layton) Gordon of Needmore.  Born with a heart defect, he was only expected to live into his teen years.  However, with modern medical advances, at age 34, Blaine underwent open heart surgery with the insertion of a stainless steel valve.  He then lived 54 more years after surgery, to set the longevity record for the Starr Edwards valve as published in a recent medical publication.

Despite his health concerns, Blaine was a go-getter, beginning to work as a boy at David & Blanche Hollenshead's Store in Needmore, stocking groceries.  With the Korean War and a limited workforce, Blaine, age 14, worked at his father's business, Gordon's Milk Hauling, driving the milk truck.  He also worked as a hunting guide at the Woodmont Rod and Gun Club, Hancock, MD.

He was a 1955 graduate of Greenhill School where he met his wife of 65 years, Donna (Bard) Gordon.

After they married, Blaine worked for K.G. Richards of McConnellsburg operating heavy equipment and road construction.  In the 1960's Blaine along with his brother-in-law, Guy Anderson, established A&G Lumber Co, offering customized sawmill and timbering services, remaining in business for over 50 years. They were instrumental in clearing the timber for the building of Raystown Lake.

In 1971 Blaine began a new venture, Gordon's Antiques, specializing in depression era glassware sales.  He also worked with his father and son at Gordon's Garage and Appliances as an appliance repairman. He loved to trap, fish and hunt - deer, turkey, mushrooms, antiques, etc. In his retirement Pap frequented the Hancock Antique Mall and Gordon's Cruise-In, telling his favorite stories to anyone who would listen. He was an active member of Needmore Bible Church and a lifetime member of Needmore Volunteer Fire Co.  Pap enjoyed time spent with all of his grandkids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Dan T. Gordon, of Needmore, PA, Dennis B. (husband of Angie) Gordon, of Needmore, PA, Dani J. (wife of Keith) Brady, of Needmore, PA, sister; Carol (wife of Ronald "Buck") Richards, of Needmore, PA, sister-in-law; Bonnie Gordon, of Big Cove Tannery, PA, eleven grandchildren;  Dane (husband of Abbey) Gordon, of Wilmington, OH, Seth (husband of Krista) Gordon, of Big Cove Tannery, PA, Skyler (husband of Kearstin) Gordon, of Washington, PA, Jenae Gordon, of Beavercreek, OH, Dustin (husband of Kelly) Gordon, of Chambersburg, PA, Jared (husband of Michelle) Gordon, of Needmore, PA, Carissa (wife of TJ) Leedy, of Needmore, PA, Shad (husband of Taylor) Gordon, of Panama City, FL, Eaven (husband of Cheyenne) Gordon, of Warfordsburg, PA, Adin (husband of Sage) Brady, of Chambersburg, PA, Quaid Brady, of Needmore, PA, and sixteen great-grandchildren; Cameron, Riley, Barrett, Archer, Rowan, Raif, Kase, Ella, Sayla, Vyla, River, Lana, Ryder, Brooks, Deacon, Zane, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his brother Dale L. Gordon.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Needmore Bible Church, Needmore, PA.

Funeral services will be held at the Needmore Bible Church, Needmore, PA, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior, on Friday, March 28, 2025, with Pastor Doug Poffenberger and Pastor Brandon Hill officiating. Interment will be at Needmore Bible Church Cemetery, Needmore, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Adin Brady, 502 Sollenberger Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 for the health care of Blaine's great grandson Deacon.

The family would like to thank his primary caregiver, Amy Kline for her exceptional care.  They would also like to express their appreciation for the many medical team members at Fulton County Medical Center that provided excellent ongoing care for Pap.
