Beverly Ann Thiel

Beverly Ann Thiel, age 70 of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Long Island, NY died Monday, October 6, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Thiel was born in Baltimore, MD on September 2, 1944, the daughter of  Euzema Smith and Mildred Alverta (DeShong) Mordan of Sun City, SC. She worked as a flight attendant for many years, retiring from American Airlines. After retirement and upon arriving in South Carolina, she became involved with Julies Mission as well as dance and musical activities offered within the Sun City-Hilton Head community. She was proficient in organ and piano and taught both. She was the 1962 Miss Maryland and won the talent competition in the Miss America Pageant that year. She was also the 2013 Ms. Senior South Carolina. Mrs. Thiel is  survived by her loving husband, Helmut Thiel of Bluffton, SC; daughters, Kathleen Murphy of Buffalo, NY and Kimberly Griner and husband Travis, also of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aaron, Nicholas, and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Dorthea and Lewis R. DeShong. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2014 at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, 873 Lincoln Way E, McConnellsburg, PA 17233 with Pastor Bill Bair officiating. Interment will be at Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA. There will be a visitation held at the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service.
