Betty L. (Deshong) Ramsey

Betty L. (DeShong) Ramsey, 82, of Harrisonville, PA, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA.

Betty was born in Needmore, PA on June 5, 1942, a daughter of the late Earl J. and Ada P. (Swope) DeShong. She was the widow of Richard "Dick" Thomas Ramsey, who she married on February 23, 1963. He preceded her in death April 14, 2012.

Betty graduated from Greenhill High School in 1960 and then attended the Waynesboro Business College.  She worked as an accountant at JLG for twenty-seven years before retiring in 2000. She was a lifelong member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, PA, where she served as the clerk and treasurer, served on the Ladies Aide Auxiliary, and was the pianist for many years. She also served on the Fulton County Republican Committee, served as county auditor and was on the Licking Creek Township Election Board for many years. She always enjoyed spending her free time playing the piano and crocheting. She also loved flowers, but most importantly her family and her church family.

Betty is survived by her son Eugene "Tom" (husband of Julie) Ramsey, of Harrisonville, PA, her daughter Michele (wife of Thad) O'Neal, of Harrisonville, PA, her sister, Dorothy J. Welsh, of McConnellsburg, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael Stains, Ryan Ramsey, Dustin "PeeWee" Stains (companion of Amber Knable), Megan (wife of Scott) Earley, and Kelsey (wife of Nate) Ross, great-grandchildren; Chance Hawbaker, Mackinley Ramsey, Miyah Ramsey, Emmalyn Earley, Eli Earley, Adeline Earley, Charlotte Earley, Lyllie Stains, Roman Hawbaker, and Nolan Ross. She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis A. Wright.

Funeral services will be held at the Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, PA at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with Pastor Bill Swope officiating. There will be a visitation held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, PA on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, there will also be one hour of visitation held prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery, Needmore, PA.
