Arietta W. Mellott, 93, of Otego, New York went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2024 at Chestnut Park Nursing Center in Oneonta, New York.
Arietta was born on November 26, 1930 in Big Cove Tannery, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman H. Mellott, after 61 years of marriage; her parents, Alvah (Todd) and Enza Williams; and siblings Maurice (Alice), Leroy (Carlton), Cecil (Gladys), Edna (King), Wahneeta, and Ethel (Don).
After graduating high school, Arietta worked at Sanger Factory and Waynesboro Knitting until they closed before becoming a homemaker. She was known for her fearless, loving nature and hard work ethic as she selflessly took care of others. Known to kill a snake without asking for help, or dig potatoes during harvest season-she exuded strength. Her strength translated into the way she fiercely loved her family.
While never smiling for a photo, she still managed to light up a room with her smile when there wasn't a camera around. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren brought her joy. She never placed value in earthly items but invested her time into loved ones. She valued every conversation and time spent with her family. Whether it was the homemade banana ice cream she was churning or the feast she made for anyone who walked through her doors, her hospitality and heart to serve brought her family irreplaceable memories. Arietta's dedication to family continued as she was always praying for them behind the scenes. Her faith in God and knowledge of the power of prayer was a witness to those around her. Arietta's love, faith, and servant's heart are what made her a testimony of God's unconditional love.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Shirley (late husband John) Strub and son Leslie (Kathy) Mellott; grandchildren Corey (Fiona) Strub; Shauna Wilsey, Stephanie (Shane) Couse, Dusti (Stephen) Novellano, Sherilena (Eric) Gessner, Jennifer (Joseph) Conway, and Kirby (Amy) Mellott; great-grandchildren Levi, Miles, Emmalin, Michaela (Nick), Cierra, Jacob, Ryland, Addalyn, Shayanna, Jonah, Emma, Samuel, Ford, and Griffin; and great-great-grandchildren Lane, Wyatt, Quort, Wrangler, Audrianna, and Clara Arietta.
A porch swing holds a special place in her family and friends' memories. After a hard day's work, Arietta and Norm were often found on the porch swing in the evening symbolizing the importance of taking the time to soak in God's many blessings of the day-a cherished memory ingrained in her loved ones.
A family viewing will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, in McConnellsburg, PA, on November 16, 2024, followed by a private graveside service at Laurel Ridge Cemetery in Big Cove Tannery, PA.
