Alton D. Hill

Alton D. Hill, 85, of Warfordsburg, PA passed away Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 at Woodland Nursing and Rehab, Orbisonia, PA. Alton was born in Warfordsburg, PA on December 6, 1931, the son of the late Edna (Peck) and Don   Hill.  He was the husband of Leona A. (Smith) Hill. whom he married on July 26, 1952. Mr. Hill  was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg, PA, the PA Cattleman's Association, the Ray's Hill Laymans Association, the Grease, Steam and Rust Association in McConnellsburg, PA, the Needmore Odd Fellows, a fifty year charter member of the Needmore Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Warfordsburg Lions Club for thirty-seven years where he held numerous offices including past president several times.  He also was on the Southern Fulton School Board for eight years and held numerous positions in the community including the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and was on the Fulton County ASCS committee for twenty-five years.  Alton was a self-employed farmer and worked at JLG Industries for twenty-one years upon retiring. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Twana L. (wife of Joel) Smith of Luverne, MN, son Roderick A. Hill of Warfordsburg, PA, son Stacy A. (husband of Wendy) Hill of Warfordsburg, PA, sister Mildred Shirk of Clear Spring, MD, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by sisters Dorothy B. Plessinger and Ella Mae Richardson. Religious Service at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14th, 2017  with Pastor Denver Plessinger officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 13th, 2017 from 2  to 8 PM   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Interment at Pleasant Grove Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Needmore Volunteer Fire Company, 8328 Great Cove Road, Needmore, PA 17238 or the Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 3013 Pleasant Grove Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.
