Alice E. (Deshong) Mellott

Alice E.  Mellott, 92, of  McConnellsburg, PA, passed away Wednesday, June 1st, at the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit, McConnellsburg, PA. Alice was born in Needmore, PA on July 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Pearl J. (Mellott) and Nebraska H. DeShong.  She was the widow of Norman A. Mellott, who preceded her in death on August 27, 1975. They were married on November 30, 1947. Alice graduated from the Warfordsburg High School then went on to graduate from the Columbia Business School in Hagerstown, MD.  She retired from the Area Agency of Aging where she served as a supervisor of the Nutrition Program.  She was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for twenty years and was a former member of the McConnellsburg  American Legion Post 561. Alice was a mother figure to many throughout the years, as her home was the gathering place for all the neighborhood children when her children were growing up.   She enjoyed cooking and canning the produce that she grew in her garden, spending time with her family, fishing and sewing when she was able. She is survived by her three daughters Norma C. (wife of Bob) Vores, McConnellsburg, PA, Jayne E. (wife of Denny) Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg, PA, and  Cynthia A. Mellott of Carlisle, PA.  She is also survived by her brother Boyd "Pete" DeShong of Warfordsburg, PA, sister Charlotte (wife of Stan) Morris of Pleaston, CA,  five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Woody H. Mellott, grandson Phillip A. Mellott, sister Goldie McCray and sister Ethel Smith. Funeral services will be held at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc, McConnellsburg, PA, at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 3rd,  with Pastor Dick Bernhard officiating. There will be a visitation held one hour before the service on Friday. Interment will be at Asbury United Methodist Cemetery Harrisonville, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Alice to the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care 214 Peach Orchard Rd. McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
