Alice E. (Atherton) Hensley

Alice E. Hensley, 89, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away Wednesday, August 10th, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. Alice was born in Mercersburg, PA on May 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Grace (Keefer) and Clarence  Atherton. She was the widow of Isaac N. Hensley, whom she married on April 14, 1968. She worked at various jobs throughout her life including working at Corning Glass, Letterkenny Army Depot, Stanley Sewing Factory, Sagner Sewing Factory, various orchards and was also a homemaker taking care of her family.   Alice was a very active ordained mother in the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, McConnellsburg, PA  for 55 years. Alice is survived by her daughters Shirley A. (wife of Mark Sr.) Strait, McConnellsburg, PA, Karen L. (widow of the late Gary) Barnhart, Harrisonville, PA, Sandra M. (wife of Melvin) Weller, Harrisonville, PA, Doris J. (wife of Steven Sr.) Oakman, McConnellsburg, PA, step sons David (husband of Debbie) Hensley, and Michael (husband of Lynn) Hensley, Boonsboro, MD, brother Frank (husband of Rachel) Atherton, Mercersburg, PA and daughter in law Bonnie L. Funk.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Howard R. Funk, brother Amos Atherton, and sisters Lottie Robertson and Mary Cleaver Religious Service will be held at the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 14th,  with Advanced Presiding Elder Mark Faith officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 6 PM to 8 PM. at the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.
