William "Bill" Reed Shives

 William "Bill" Reed Shives, 66, of Needmore, PA passed away Sunday, August 19th, 2018 at his residence.

     Bill was born in McConnellsburg, PA on April 7, 1952, the son of the late Dorothy O. (Truax) and A. Reed "Pete" Shives.  He was the husband of Paula Jean (Smith) Shives whom he married on October 6, 1973.

     Mr. Shives served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for six years, was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore, PA, the American Legion Post #561 in McConnellsburg, PA, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and also attended the Warfordsburg United Methodist Church.  He was a Belfast Township Supervisor for thirty-six years, past employee of P&W, Inc., past partner in Shives Brothers Lumber, past owner/operator of Shives Lumber and currently was a partner in S&S Excavating and Hauling in Needmore, PA.  Bill enjoyed flea markets, eating out, all outdoor activities especially hunting and spending time with family and friends.

     In addition to his wife, he is survived by son W. Matthew "Matt" (husband of Anita) Shives, of Needmore, PA, brother Gary (husband of Penny) Shives, of Harrisonville, PA, sisters Betty (wife of Greg) Shaffer, of Breezewood, PA, Debra (wife of Lonnie) Palmer, of Warfordsburg, PA, granddaughters Marina C. (Shives) Meck (wife of Randy), of Broad Top, PA, Cassidy D. Shives, of Needmore, PA, Mikayla A. Shives, of Needmore, PA and step-grandson Jalen Meck, of Broad Top, PA.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

     Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 2 to 8 PM   at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

     Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018  with Pastor Frank Kocek officiating.

     Interment at Antioch Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, PA.

     Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
