John M. Hockensmith, 99, of Harrisonville, PA passed away Friday, June 1st, 2018 at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA
John was born in Harrisonville, PA on September 16, 1918, the son of the late Helen (DeShong) and John Hockensmith. He was the husband of Juanita M. (Melius) Hockensmith whom he married on September 12, 1941.
Mr. Hockensmith served two years in England during WWII in the Army Air Corps and then worked at the Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, PA. After retiring in the late seventies, he moved back to Fulton County where he enjoyed gardening and hunting. John was very creative, mechanically inclined and made many charitable contributions during his life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Michael P. (husband of Dorothy) Hockensmith, of Tennessee, daughter Suzanne M. Hockensmith Bressler (wife of Greg), of Florida, son Dale L. (husband of Amy) Hockensmith, of Enola, PA, son Scott A. (husband of Kris) Hockensmith, of Mechanicsburg, PA, daughter Betsy K. Hockensmith White (wife of Doug), of Mechanicsburg, PA, daughter-in-law Chris Hockensmith, of Carlisle, PA, sister Betty Considine, of Maryland, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Dean M. Hockensmith, sister Myrna Myers and brother Richard P. Hockensmith.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 3rd, 2018 from 2 to 3:30 PM at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Greenhill Sewing Club, Harrisonville, PA at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
