Cherie L. Fix, 81, of Fort Littleton, PA passed away Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 at Falling Spring Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA.
Cherie was born in Wells Tannery, PA on August 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Mary (Guillard) and Mont Hiram Chamberlain. She was the widower of Clair Raymond Fix whom she married on March 21, 1953 and he passed away on April 9, 1998.
Mrs. Fix was a member of the Class of 1954 at Hustontown High School, the Freedom Worship Center in Ft. Littleton, PA, the Women of the Moose in Chambersburg, PA, the American Legion Post #561 in McConnellsburg, PA, the VFW Ladies Auxilliary, the Knobsville Singles Club, the Historical Society and the Red Hat Society. She also was associated with the Hustontown/Forbes Road High School Alumni, enjoyed events and activities at her church and was active with the Hustontown Senior Center where she attended regularly when she was still living at home.
Cherie was a waitress at Bill's Place in Breezewood, PA before getting married, worked nineteen years at the Sagner Sewing Factory in McConnellsburg, PA, two years at Connie's Sportswear in Waynesboro, PA, a shoe factory in Greencastle, PA and at the Scotland School for Veteran's Children for seventeen years as a house parent upon retiring. After retiring, she was a custodian at the Southern Fulton School District and the Forbes Road School District. Mrs. Fix also was a Shaklee Products distributor for the last thirty-five years.
When Cherie worked in the textile industry, she was always active in union organizations. At the Scotland School for Veteran's Children, she was active in the union AFSME. After she retired, Cherie participated in the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees organization (PARSE) because advocating for worker's rights was very important to her.
Mrs. Fix loved traveling. She has visited forty-nine of fifty states of the United States by going on bus trips and cruises. Places of interest were Nashville Opryland and Fanfare, Miami and Key West, Mississippi, New Orleans, lighthouse tour of New England, Pigeon Forge, Branson, Las Vegas the Carribean (Aruba and Puerto Rico), Mexico and Canada. She also enjoyed attending community festivals, picnics, parties, reunions, homecomings and camping at Blue Diamond. In her spare time, Cherie enjoyed doing word search, crocheting and adult coloring books.
Cherie loved spending quality time with her family and friends catching up on each others lives. Where family and friends were gathered together, that is where you would find Cherie and she would know everyone. What her favorite past time of all though was talking on the telephone to family and friends for hours because she just loved people.
She is survived by daughter Dian (wife of Garfield) Stowe of Barboursville, VA and brother Dan Chamberlain of Pine Grove, PA. Preceded in death by son Victor Clair Fix who passed away on November 23, 1980 , brothers Jim and John Chamberlain.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 18th, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home. Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19th, 2018 with Pastor Kevin Wade and Pastor Chris Elliott officiating. Interment at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, Saint Jude's Children Hospital or the Wounded Warriors.
