John D. Strait, 91, of McConnellsburg, PA passed away Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 at his residence.
John was born in Harrisonville, PA on January 11, 1920, the son of the late Thurman and Annie (Pine) Strait. He was the widower of Betty L. (Pennell) Strait.
He was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, PA, retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA and served in the U.S. Army as a PFC in WW II.
Mr. Strait is survived by Daughter Linda L. Strait of McConnellsburg, PA, Adopted daughter Cindy J. Whitehead of Tampa, FL, Sisters Dorothy Seiders of Fayetteville, PA, Ethel Lake of Harrisonville, PA, Brothers Paul Strait of Altoona, PA, Dallas Strait of Greencastle, PA, Grandchildren Twana L. Strait, David Allen Metcalf, Adopted grandchildren Stephanie R. Mellott, Tracy N. Brown, Angie E. Mellott, Great grandchildren Erica L. Hafner, Paul E. Hafner, Jr. and seven adopted great grandchildren. Preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Religious Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22nd, 2011 with Pastor William Bair officiating.
Interment at Siloam United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, PA.
There will be visitation on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
